Recycling of Used Storage Batteries — Achieving Nearly 100% Reuse

A Reliable Recycling System that Supports a Circular Economy

Energywith operates a circular recycling program as a Wide-Area Certification Business Operator certified by Japan’s Ministry of the Environment*1.
We collect industrial storage batteries (including power supply equipment, accessories, and catalyst caps) nationwide, and reuse materials such as lead recovered from used lead-acid batteries—processed by refining—as raw materials for new products.

*1 Wide-Area Certification No. 331

Lead is a metal that can be recycled repeatedly with minimal loss of quality. It also features a low melting point, which means less energy is required for recycling.
Energywith maximizes these characteristics of lead to establish a system that circulates limited resources without waste.

Recycling of Industrial Lead-Acid Batteries and Power Supply Equipment

Industrial lead-acid batteries and power supply equipment are expected to have a service life ranging from approximately 3–5 years for shorter-life systems to 10–15 years for longer-life systems.
Used battery systems must be properly collected and recycled. Energywith is certified to conduct wide-area collection for such recycling.

In addition, the Energywith Group offers one-stop solutions for storage batteries and emergency power systems. When customers replace (dispose of) or recycle batteries or battery systems, we provide comprehensive support—from the installation of battery-equipped systems and related facility construction, to ongoing maintenance and servicing.

About the Wide-Area Certification System

This system allows manufacturers and related companies to conduct waste treatment across multiple regions without needing separate permits from each local municipality, provided the purpose is proper waste disposal.
Energywith is a certified wide-area operator.
Five battery manufacturers, including Energywith (listed on page 2 of the reference document), collect used batteries and power supply devices sold nationwide—through specialized contractors—regardless of the customer’s location. (We can also collect products from manufacturers other than Energywith.)

Additionally, when customers request Energywith to handle disposal, no individual contracts with separate disposal contractors are required.

Recycling of Automotive Batteries

For automotive batteries, Energywith utilizes the framework operated under Wide-Area Certification No. 216 by the Lead-Acid Storage Battery Recycling Association (SBRA).
Retailers that sell automotive, motorcycle, light vehicle, and forklift starter batteries collect used units.
The collected batteries are transported by specialized contractors, dismantled, and the lead components are refined again for reuse as raw materials.
